Did you try what MIrcea mentioned below?
It, too, worked for me adding kde2 to my gdm session.

storm:# cd /etc/gdm/Sessions
storm:/etc/gdm/Sessions# ln Debian kde2

That added kde2 to my choices when logging in to the gdm login 
screen.  Worked like a charm.
