Sorry guys, I think it's real.  I was the 4th person to post about this, and I did so because I got this letter in the mail today (Friday).  Frank, I'm like you...I bought Deluxe and sent in a form for my $20 rebate.  That was in October.  I just got the letter today.  My address is listed, but I didn't see yours.

The letter was sent from Deloitte & Touche office in Vancouver, BC.  Here's the text:
Dear Sir/Madam,
 Re: Stormix Technologies Inc.

Enclosed you will find a copy of the Notice of Intention to make a Proposal as filed by Stormix Technologies Inc. ("the Company") on January 17, 2001.  The Company has 30 days within which to file a Proposal to its creditors.  Deloitte & Touche Inc. is acting as the Trustee under the Proposal and will, over the next 30 days, assist the Company in formulating its Proposal.  A copy of the Proposal will follow when it has been filed with out offices.

Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact Paul Hazra at (604) 640-3355

Yours truly,
DELOITTE & TOUCHE INC.

I just realized as I typed this..."Duh!  I could have just posted this Paul Hazra's phone number.  Someone in Vancouver could have just made the local call...Oh well.  Next comes a list of various creditors and how much they're owed.  (Kinda creepy seeing yourself listed on one of these things...).  Finally, there's the text of the Proposal, attached as the last page.  Here it is:

District of     03
Division No.    03
NOTICE OF INTENTION TO MAKE A PROPOSAL
        (SUBSECTION 50.4(1))

TAKE NOTICE THAT:
  • I, Stormix Technologies Inc., an insolvent person, pursuant to Subsection 50.4(1) of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, intend to make a proposal to my creditors.
  • Deloitte & Touche Inc. of 2100-1055 Dunsmuir Streeet, Vancouver, B.C., a licensed Trustee, has consented to act as Trustee under the proposal.  A copy of the consent is attached.
  • A list of names of the known creditors with claims amounting to @250 or more and the amounts of their claims is attached.
  • Pursuant to Section 69 of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, all proceedings against me are stayed as of the date of filing this notice with the Official Receiver in our locality.
Dated at Vancouver, this 17th day of January, 2001.

Stormix Technologies Inc.
by its authorized signatory

Well, there it is.  That's what I got.  As I read it (while typing it), it looks like they're trying to get creditors to stop hounding them while they try to work things out.  To Ron, the lawyer (Hi Ron, I used to be a Hal-PC member until I moved to College Station), it looks like they filed under Canadian Bankruptcy Law, not US Chapt. 11 or 13 (makes sense, their a Canadian company).

On an odd note, the letter says they owe me $30.24, but it was a $20 rebate.  I wonder if that's $30.24 in Canadian Dollars, or if I'm getting interest.  There are a lot of people owed $30.24.  It's also strange that they say the list is of creditors owed $250 or more, but there are so many "rebate" people on the list.  Anyone in Canada able to shed any light on this?

I hope this is not true. I just spent my money on their Storm Linux Deluxe
version and sent in for my us20.00 rebate.

If it is true, I will need to consider RH7, debian or some flavor of
debian.

Regards,
Frank
