Wrong,I use a Lucent winmodem using the binary-only driver provided by
Lucent.Works like a charm for about a year now.
Now to answer the original question.You have to download from somewhere
the drivers for the kernel you're running.Being a binary only driver
it's a good
chance that it will run only on the kernel it was compiled for.The old
one worked
for 2 revisions(using insmod -f ,man insmod ) above the kernel for which
was released.
Now the installer for the driver I had was for RH only and puked on a
Debian system,but all it took was changing some paths in the install
script.
So get going to http://www.linmodems.org ,find the driver,download then
read the readme file ,and eventually post back if you still need help.
