E-Democracy is considering a major step that we hope will increase the quality of this forum and become the groundwork for some exciting new E-Democracy projects in St. Paul. We would like your input - please feel free to respond to me privately or in this public forum.

I have been talking to a number of people in the community about setting up the first "official" LOCAL CHAPTER of E-Democracy anywhere, here in St. Paul. The purposes of setting up a chapter in St. Paul would be:
1) To increase the formal channels for community
input and oversight of the St. Paul Issues Forum &
other possible new E-Democracy projects. This means - a local board of directors for
St. Paul E-Democracy and monthly or quarterly
meetings to set direction and discuss new
initiatives. 2) To provide clear opportunities for local fundraising
that would support St. Paul E-Democracy projects.Fundraising might take any of three approaches (or more):
a) Membership Drive for St. Paul E-Democracy
(think MPR or Public Television)
b) Local Business Sponsorships
c) Institutional partnerships and grants
for new St. Paul E-Democracy Projects. 3) To build the infrastructure of an organization
that has the skills and capability of using
internet technologies to engage citizens in
civic life in St. Paul and to support other
community based on-line efforts. 4) Finally, to develop a model for how other cities
and communities might build their own local
E-Democracy project.What I need to know from the participants of the St. Paul Issues Forum is, do you as citizens and public policy makers in St. Paul see a role for an improved and expanded presence of E-Democracy?
Are the human and financial resources available in St. Paul to make this work?
I will follow this email with a short list of ideas about how a St. Paul Chapter of E-Democracy might better serve the community.
Please do take the time to respond. This could prove to be a critical moment in the future of E-Democracy in St. Paul and I need as much input as possible. In particular, I need to know if you see this as a realistic and practical vision for E-Democracy in St. Paul. Please be open and honest.
