SPIF = St. Paul Issues Forum -----------------------------
Over the last year, I've spoken with and/or met individuals from a number of district councils about how E-Democracy can better serve their needs and the needs of the city as a whole.
One of the most common themes that I hear, is a need for better communication about community projects, concerns, issues, or news - between neighborhoods or district councils. Yesterday, Ray Sammons commented on how little discussion we have in our list about projects east of Downtown.
In my opinion, the lack of discussion on our list about East Side issues is reflective of a larger lack of communication between certain sections of our city. While, we have had limited success in meeting this goal, the St. Paul Issues Forum has much potential for sharing information, ideas, and pressing concerns from every corner of our city.
Some examples of neighborhood issues that have gotten some city-wide exposure in this forum.
- Gopher State Ethanol - Development Plans for the West Side Flats - Midway Marketplace / Walmart - Menard's Development at Prior & University - Ayd Mill Road - Grand Old Days
I'd like to hear more about
- The proposed dike around the Downtown airport - The Phalen Corridor - Development at University & Dale
In the past, too much responsibility for this forum has rested in the hands of one or two individuals. The purpose of forming a St. Paul Chapter of E-Democracy is build partnerships with organizations and individuals that will help E-Democracy better serve the civic needs of the entire city.
Does anyone have any ideas about how we can use the St. Paul Issues Forum or other new projects to facilitate communication between St. Paul neighborhoods and community leaders?
