Okay, I just reread the article that Tim sent, and now I'm annoyed. Here's Jay's quote:
"I think this place has as much impact on St. Paul, albeit in a different way, as the Ordway," said Benanav. "This is a place that brings in Nobel laureates and Pulitzer Prize winners to speak. Without this store, the Twin Cities would be a flyover for folks like that."
You shouldn't be annoyed by just his quote but also what about other businesses that are suffering similar fates. Some by maybe mismanagement others due to other forces WAY beyond their control, some by the very actions the City has taken.
I know of a coffeeshop that due to the fact US Bank moved to the other side of the River in St Paul has sales that are off to the tune of about $50,000 a year. Had to discharge employee's, reneogiate it's lease. I am sure given a couple hundred grand or even just $50K STAR grant they would be more than happy to re-employ that person and even hire a few more (even if all they do is stand around and collect the money).
