Hello!
As mentioned in the earlier message, the mission/charter committee is working on the nuts & bolts of establishing a St. Paul Chapter of E-Democracy. We've made some progress, and we hope that you'll be interested in some of the items we're discussing.
Here are some of the things we've been working on: * a working statement of purpose * strategic goals for the chapter and the forum * formalizing processes for fundraising and membership * increasing list participation * formalizing chapter governance structure and leadership
We've had some very interesting discussions about how to approach all of these issues and goals, and we came to the conclusion that we should appoint an interim steering committee to make some of these decisions. Why? We want to assure that a diverse range of interests and opinions are represented in these very important decisions that will govern the future of the forum. We're also very interested in making sure that the organization is sustainable over the long term, which will require active participation of the membership and member support.
The responsibilities for this interim steering committee will include:
* Draft by-laws and organizing documents
* Create a permanent governing board and establish board membership criteria
* Define list membership
* Serve as an advisory group to the List Manager
* Finalize the statement of purpose and mission
* Long-term fundraising and event plan
* Negotiate boundaries of relationship between St. Paul group and E-Democracy as a whole
Please let one of us know if you would be interested in serving on the interim steering committee or if you know of anyone who might be good to contact for service on the board. Nominations should be received by Sunday, Feb. 8 and the final interim board will be appointed sometime during the week of Feb. 9. Feel free to contact either one of us if you have any questions.
