Well, we were told back in Nov that GSE was changing it's process to include less corn and more "sugar water" (actually a hazardous substance that can't be flushed down the drain) to make their ever lovin ethanol.
You would really have to wonder if that is indeed the case given the amount of truck traffic (grain truck traffic) going into the plant since then. Driving past the plant's truck entrance as I do so often during the day, every day you would be surprised by the increase in traffic.
Last summer you could drive by and with the exceptions of Monday and Friday, rarely if ever see a truck in the bay. Since the first part of Dec, I have noticed that there isn't a time when there isn't a truck in the bay emptying it's corn.
Yesterday was the topper, imagine my surprise to count 18 trucks either in the bay or in a holding pattern on Webster, James, and Randolph. At first I thought this an aboration and momentary thing, till I talked with those who work in the area. SURPRISE!!! They had trucks stacked up ALL DAY LONG. Now GSE should already know that our city streets are not their parking lot, but more important is WHAT ARE THEY DOING NOW??? Today they have all the bays filled, and a couple of trucks on the street.
As for the permit for the plant, you know the one that expired in Jan 2003, we have been told by the MPCA that before they move forward with the permit renewal that GSE submitted they are gonna do some tests first.

In response to the frequent comment to get more data before we proceed with another permit, two activities are being planned. One is more stack emission testing. We have met with testing companies to ask them to try to find ways to improve the detection limits for some pollutants. Even if they cannot improve the detection limits, more emission tests will likely be done. The other possibility is some sampling and analysis of the air in the community. These samples are usually taken for 24 hours so all you get is a 24-hour average. Samples must be taken for several months before any conclusions can result. So the permit is on hold for awhile.-------
As I read this and remind myself of the MPCA's own words about being their to make sure that permits are written correctly, Why do we even have an MPCA? When the rules and laws say that you have to have your renewal in Months in advance of an expiration, why are they given a pass cause they got it in 24 hours before it expired? Would I get the same sort of treatment as a private citizen under the same circumstances? Would I say be given a pass for a nice Prarie Garden before they sent in someone to MOW MY LAWN?
The INSANITY MUST STOP, the stench has been confirmed as the residents complained what it has been like for the past years, and at levels so far above the agreed odor limit, that GSE will not be able to meet the May Deadline as agreed in the settlement agreement with the City.
What will it take? We have had enough. We were your TEST subjects for this "Nations First Urban Ethanol Plant". THE TEST FAILED. Now we are your TEST subjects for your "NEW PROCESS WITH LESS CORN". We are tired of being your TEST SUBJECTS, shut the Stinking Rotten Plant Down already.
