I certainly hope Council person Thune made his suggestion tongue in cheek. Although, I guess it depends on what level on income this payroll tax begins.
Naturally as a "restaurant" business person in DT who would have been subject to collecting this tax, I have been in regular contact with Dave on this issue.
The idea that Dave is going back on a Campaign pledge, is ludicris. As a matter of fact I received the following from Dave about this just last night. With his permission I quote from his email.
"I also announced at our legislative committee that the bar and restaurant tax had virtually no support amongst the taxee's and I couldn't support it."
Adding
"I asked our finance people to examine the possibility of a downtown district "progressive" payroll tax... under $50,000 you pay nothing, progressively more on up to CEO's... I've already heard squealing!"
So if you work in Downtown, and your taxable income is below $50,000 you would pay nothing, however if you do you will pay something, if your a CEO (like those who run the Chamber, The Developers, or own the Wild, etc...) your gonna pay for this thing.
I believe his thoughts are, if your gonna push for it (and it seems to me the only people pushing for this are those that have very high incomes), then your gonna pay for it...
Seems that they don't like that idea at all, and are already "squeeling". So we have these Rich Clowns pushing to make it so that the average worker has to pay for it. But as soon as the Clowns pushing for it are put on the block, they say WHOA WAIT A MINUTE HERE... Why should we have to pay a tax for this thing??????
It's all about the game and how you play it, it's all about control and if you can take it.... Even the mayor is backpeddling now saying he would support letting the voters vote on it. Mighty big of him, and we been down that road and know where it leads.
I for one am glad we have such a clever council person that can come up with ideas like this to show the ONE SIDEDNESS of this silly thing. I guess I can see the game being played very well, I wish others could see it as well.
