It is no doubt true that the city pays a fee to the
credit card companies. However, it may well be that
allowing the use of credit cards reduces the number of
tax delinquencies. It may be cost-effective to pay the
fee rather than delay for years the collection of
taxes and incur the collection expenses. Let's hope
anyway that the city has done a cost/benefit analysis
that shows this to be the case.
