-------------------------------------------------- Last Chance to Offer Input On New Chief of Police!
May 3rd at Harding High * May 4th at Humboldt High Info: http://www.e-democracy.org/stpaul/chief.html -------------------------------------------------- We recently paid our property tax and used a credit card to do it. This is the first time we noticed that we had this option. We have always paid by check. How much does this cost our city and county in lost tax revenue? I know the Credit Card service takes a cut. I have heard they take 3% or more. This would be $60 fee on a $2000 payment. I understand why a business takes credit cards. It spurs impulse buying, and lowers the cost of handling a purchase by check or store credit accounts. Paying property tax is a pain, but it is required. I am not more likely to pay it just because I can use my credit card. I am likely to use my CC from now on, because I get a credit back when I do so. My card gives me 1% back to buy books at Barnes and Noble. Other companies offer other incentives, like frequent flyer miles or cash back. Does anyone know when we started accepting credit cards for tax payments, or how much tax revenue we are losing because of it? Is it really worth it to use our tax revenue for this convenience? -- Bob Treumann, Saint Paul Please Note: Replies to this email address all go to the trash except where the subject line contains a recognized mailing list identifier, such as [TCMETRO] _____________________________________________ NEW ADDRESS FOR LIST: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe, modify subscription, or get your password - visit: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/listinfo/stpaul Archive Address: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/private/stpaul/
