Community Forum on Job Shadowing in St. Paul High Schools May 17 - 28 http://www.stpauljobshadow.org

Sorry, Job Shadowing is my thing this week! -------------------------------------------
I just had a long discussion with my sister about her experience hosting a job shadow student. She is a structural engineer, working in an office where her time is billed hourly to clients.
She has some real concerns about the ability of many small to mid-sized companies to have high schools students hanging around when they have work to get done.
One of the purposes of this online event, is to get REALISTIC feedback from businesses, about what kinds of commitments they might make to job shadowing programs - if they are willing at all. How altruistic are they willing to be with their time and resources to support local high school students. Or, what conditions might they put on their participation.
Would a law office limit their participation to students that are sincerely interested in law and already preparing themselves for law school? Or, take any student, regardless of academic performance?
This is a real public policy issue that our schools are wrestling with - and this is your chance to provide feedback to folks who are listening.
Please, share some thoughts about how easy or difficult you think it might be to place St. Paul high school students in private businesses for job shadow opportunities. NOTE: We're talking about large numbers of students (maybe 100%).
Feel free to post your messages here in the St. Paul Issues Forum....
