Everyone:
Now I have to admit I rarely visit downtown Saint Paul, particularly on a weekend.
Suffice it to say, that I was more than shocked when I went downtown and parked on
West Seventh with many other unsuspecting souls and got ticketed for an expired meter.
I went down to the Grand Opening of the Farmers Market, which by the way was a
wonderful experience and is now just a better venue all the way around.
I spoke to the manager of the Farmers Market and asked him when the meter policy had
changed. He wasn't certain, but he DID know that the immediate streets around the
farmers market were still free. I told him that there was no place to park on the
immediate streets and it seemed counter productive, if the Farmers Market wanted
people to come down, to have the city charge for metered parking on the weekends when
that never was the case before.
How did I miss that this was now the policy?
Does the city really think that this will increase traffic downtown and boost the
retail revenue?
Is this the way they tax for the new improvements made to the Farmers Market?
What is even more frustrating is that I always carry meter money in the car with me,
should I need it. It just never occurred to me that the meters were in force.
Again, the Saint Paul crew ruins the experience of the downtown experience!
How can I protest this ticket? I hope my city councilman, Lee Helgen is lurking along
with Dave Thune and everyone else. Is this something you all voted for? Or is this
just something that occurred without your knowledge? If so, then how was the change
communicated to people?
It now just added a tab of $23.00 to my originally conservative Farmers Market bill.
Not to mention the time and parking it will cost me to protest it.
