I was thinking of another problem, and one that I think deserves a small protest.
Millard Fillmore ran for President 2 years after the Excursion on the American Party ticket. This party existed solely to keep out immigrants to the US, who were mostly Irish at this time. The fundamental principle was that Irish, as Catholics, were unfit to be Americans (and for a few more details, see "The Gangs of New York"). http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/Quad/6460/dir/850amer.html I find it more than a bit distasteful that Saint Paul would celebrate the arrival of an anti-Catholic bigot. Certainly, 150 years ago this city was very much run by the Episcopacracy (and a few Presbyterians) but not today. I think some kind of protest is in order, say a few signs with "period" lettering and period costumes, all in good fun. Anyone with me?
