Congratulations to us in Minneapolis! The Number 1 Most Literate City in the USA!
>From the Strib: http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/4909908.html But isn't it interesting that half of the 10 least literate cities in the US are from Texas whose governor 4 years ago promised to do for all of America what they had done in his state. Is it any wonder that our school systems are facing the problems they are having when they are forced to work with one of the many underfunded mandates from the scrimp and cut conservatives? And in case you don't understand what I mean, President Bush has refused to demand full funding for his No Child Left Behind mandates. But why should our schools have it any better than our military who are facing cuts in combat pay and health care--as are our veterans--during what is supposedly a time of war. Or the cutbacks to cities forcing the layoff of hundreds of police and firefighters. Of course, we could easily fund it all but we would have to roll back those tax cuts to the rich and the corporations. I point this out so we all know just who Kelly has decided to throw his backing behind--George W Bush--the man who has made history as the first person in the world who has made War safer than Peace. Just look at how many Americans died before we declared our Mission Accomplished and how many have been killed since Peace broke out.
