I'm thinking Corkey has a case of pragmatitis. I mean, really. What positions would he run on that are that different from Kelly's? I've known Corkey since we were in grade school, and let me tell you, he's not a flaming liberal.

While Mayor Kelly may think the next Mayors race will be a $1
Million election, I don't think his opponent will need that much.
Maybe Mayor Kelly figures he has some deep pockets that are willing
to make sure he stays in power.

Of course, it really depends on who is running against Kelly. If
its someone like me, it probably won't cost the mayor much. If its
Corkey Finney then it may cost Kelly a lot.

The real issue for the next city election is: Are the citizens of
St. Paul that dissatisfied with the Mayor that he needs to spend
that kind of money. I know many folks are upset at some of this
actions but I would bet that there are a large number of voters who
think he is doing the right thing.

I could be wrong... I usually am, but the reason it stuck in my
mind
was the comment from the mayor saying this election would be a $1

Million election and I thought to myself DANG THAT IS ALOT OF
MONEY.

Thanks to John for the clarification. For the record, I've gotten 4

offline responses on this post - which I can summarize as follows.

Apparently - the story/rumor appeared in Joe Kimball's column on
Friday, quoting the former chief that he was reluctant to raise the

kind of money that will be necessary for the upcoming Mayoral race.
I
have been told (second or third hand), that the Chief is unhappy
that
his comments have been represented as suggesting that he does not
plan to run. Second-hand sources indicate, that he may still be
considering a run for Mayor and that nothing has changed.

If anyone cares to add detail to this information (sketchy and from

multiple second-hand sources), please do so.

Basically, this is all still at the "rumor" stage.

No one has given me any NEW names of possible candidates. So far,
the
only ones I've heard mention of are: Mayor Kelly and Former Chief
Finney.

Anyone care to comment on the $1 million dollar price tag for the
next mayoral race? Is this really possible / should it be
expected?

How would that compare to recent mayoral elections in St. Paul and
Mpls?

Anyone?

Thanks.
