I don't remember reading Kelly's comment about a racing costing a $1M but he might have been citing that number as what an opponent would have to spend to unseat him.
I'm happy with Kelly and it's hard for me to imagine Kelly losing a re-election campaign. I think most of the people who are upset with him (starting with Jay Benanav?) are political insiders and not terribly reflective of the electorate - they're ticked off about process and political positioning. He is going to claim, and be given credit for, successfully managing the budget in the presence of some pretty significant LGA cuts. This last attempt to increase the levy is also something that he'll be able to exploit - I hope he was gracious enough to send the city council a thank you note for that ill-fated attempt. :-) He'll also get points for being supportive of the SE Asian influx we are experiencing this fall and that'll give him a nice soft and loving cover issue, not to mention votes. If Pawlenty and the Republicans toss St. Paul a few million in the next session as a thank you to Kelly for supporting Bush (yuck!) his re-election is a lay-down. _____________________________________________ To Join: St. Paul Issues Forum Rules Discussion Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] _____________________________________________ NEW ADDRESS FOR LIST: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To subscribe, modify subscription, or get your password - visit: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/listinfo/stpaul Archive Address: http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/private/stpaul/
