Here is a personal analysis of what is happening right now in the Mayoral race.

One of the things that is going on right now, is that a network of political insiders is most likely trying to determine which one candidate has the best chance of beating Mayor Kelly and discouraging anyone else from running. Now, this is a very loose, unstructured, and poorly defined network of insiders. Most of whom are a part of the network, based purely upon the their interest in the process and willingness to spend lots of time and effort discussing "insider politics."

They are not doing this for evil reasons or to deny the public input, however they are bypassing traditional channels of public input in the process - in hopes of boosting their chances of success. Instead of encouraging as many people as possible to run - and winnowing the choice down later in the process, they will be trying to reach consensus very early and avoid any kind of costly public debates. They fear, that this is their only option for victory - and they might be right.

However, ultimately - the public will have its say. For those who wish to offer input in this process - one means is in this forum. At this point, no meaningful decisions have been made AND its NOT too late to nominate candidates or express support for particular individuals. Its not to late - to jump into the race yourself. Many of the folks in this network of "insiders" are paying attention to this forum and trying to gauge public opinion on the Mayoral race.

These behind the scenes decisions will be influenced by whatever public discussions are taking place. The more the public engages itself in the process, the more input they will have - and the less likely the insiders will ever come to consensus.

So ..... Having said that. For those of you who have not yet commented -

What do you want to see in the upcoming
         St. Paul mayoral race?
    Who should run?
And what are the key issues?

NOTE: Many of these "insiders" don't consider themselves as "insiders" and won't recognize themselves in my comments. I don't use the term "insiders" negatively - and probably fall into that category myself (to some degree).

I welcome your comments on this analysis......

Best wishes,
