It's too late to even organize and protest this, isn't it?
We've all been so busy with all the rest of the stuff that's being done behind our backs - we dropped the ball on this one. What now?
Are you talking about the busway or the restriping.
Dave Thune has made it clear, that the restriping was initiated by folks in the community. Any connection between the restriping and the busway appears very tenuous at best.
There is good evidence (I've heard) that the method of putting one lane of traffic in each direction with a turn lane in the middle is both safer and more efficient. As Dave said, one of the outcomes is almost certainty that traffic speeds will go down and the there will be fewer accidents.
So, how is working?
My own sense, is that it has worked very well on Fairview and other streets where I've encountered it. I haven't been on West 7th yet, but I expect it should work quite well there.
Reactions to this appear to based upon a general suspicion of anything that the city does and less on the real impact of the restriping. For those who are concerned, I would love to hear what their practical objections are as opposed to theoretical suggestions that restriping will inevitably lead to a busway.
Best wishes,
