Dear participants in the St. Paul Issues Forum,

We are students at Macalester College and as part of our Political Geography: Spaces of Citizenship course we are developing an on-line discussion regarding the present and future situation of light rail transit in St. Paul and Minneapolis. We hope to bring together a broad range of people affected by the light rail, including residents of the Twin Cities, members of neighborhood councils and community groups, and elected officials (people on who represent multiple perspectives on the issue). As active civic participants we hope that you will find this forum to be a valuable resource both for learning more about the issues at hand and expressing your own points of view.

The discussion will occur Monday, November 1 through Friday, November 5 and will be moderated through PoliTalk, a virtual group for the discussion of current affairs. Each day we will post a new topic or question focusing on a particular aspect of the light rail, and we hope that you will join the discussion and share your perspective on the issues raised. To register for the forum, please visit:

Our goal is to raise awareness of the issues surrounding the light rail and its expansion and to create an accessible space for the community to learn about the diverse opinions surrounding this topic. By participating, you will have an unusual opportunity to inform undecided and uneducated participants of your views and your reasons for them. Please contact us if you have any questions and we urge you to forward this widely to other individuals interested in the Twin Cities light rail. Thank you for your contribution to the light rail conversation.

Sincerely,
