We, (Phil Chen, Sam Lawrence, Jay Bowman, Bahiyyih Comeau and Clara McConnell) are a group of Macalester students interested in starting an online discussion about the revitalization of downtown St. Paul.
As the Twin Cities Metro Area has expanded, commercial and residential development has occurred in the suburbs and exurbs of the cities. A noticeable lack of growth, however, has occurred in the Downtown Saint Paul area. The city is engaged in housing development and business expansion, but it is difficult to tell how successful these efforts will be.
What we hope to accomplish through this discussion is to gain insight into the future of the Downtown area. What needs to be done in order to revitalize this area or is the future of the Twin Cities in our suburbs?
What efforts towards revitalization in Downtown Saint Paul have you observed? How do you gauge the success of these projects? What needs are not being met and how should the city address these problems?
Our discussion will be held on the online forum Politalk starting November 15. To register for the discussion, simply follow this link: http://mapnp.geeks.org/mailman/listinfo/stpaul-topics
We look forward to your insights and concerns about the future of Downtown St. Paul.
Thank you,
Phil, Sam, Jay, Bahiyyih and Clara
