St. Paul Issues Members,

Nick Coleman in his Star Tribune column today has what I would call a disturbing story about Maxfield Elementary School. In summary he writes about the lack of reading materials and books in the classrooms and library. The literacy teacher, Sarah Carlsson, is quoted, "And a lot of the books we did have were the wrong level, like first-grade books in a fifth -grade class".

My concern is how did this happen? Who is accountable for this most basic need of adequate reading materials for an educational institution?

Sorry that I don't have the web link. The column is in the Metro section of today's Mpls Star-Tribune.
