In reply to Bob Burrell's message about the Nick Coleman column on Maxfield,
I got a flier at a meeting the other day about their book drive.

Obviously the School Board and Administration need to address this issue, but
in the meantime we can help.

The Great Harvest Bread Company, 534 Selby Avenue is a collection site for
books and donations for Maxfield.

You can bring them new and gently used books appropriate for Grades K-3.

You can also visit there to view the type of books they need and write a
check to Maxfield School to enable them to purchase the books of your choice
for
the school library.

Each contribution will be recognized with a book plate bearing the donor's
name, and each donor will get a bookmark handmade by Maxfield students.

There isn't a mailing address on the flier for where contributions can be
sent, but perhaps that can be posted by someone who has that information.

Maxfield has 400 students - 93% receive free or reduced lunch. They need 350
books per classroom, but average only about 100.
