While the school may need a reload of books, that's the least of it's problems.
I had two children at Maxfield at one point and one was there six years. Big mistake in hindsight. Nick Coleman's article neglects to specifically mention that the reading level of the those books mentioned is a good match for a lot of the older students. When my older child was there in sixth grade 16 of 19 students in his classroom were reading WAY WAY below grade level. That school has been getting progressively worse for 10 years. You have to ask why the school board hasn't focused some attention on this school and directed the Superintendent to salvage the situation. It's had 7 principals, that I know of, in the last 10 years but despite being sent to the penalty box by Superintendent Harvey through her ill advised school probation concept nothing has changed and the school might as well be invisible rather than in "school ICU" where it belongs.
