Nick Coleman's article neglects to specifically mention that the reading level of the those books mentioned is a good match for a lot of the older students. When my older child was there in sixth grade 16 of 19 students in his classroom were reading WAY WAY below grade level.
NEAT is an network of Parent Organizations throughout the city working to address issues like this one.

I strongly recommend that folks who have an interest in this issue, consider coming to the NEAT public forum on the Achievement Gap this evening.
This is a great opportunity for parents and community members to get involved in city wide efforts to address issuse crucial to education in St. Paul.
