The notes from our planning process are now available on the SPPD Web Site. The November meeting notes are not posted yet but the notes from the previous 3 meetings are. Please review the documents and feel free to send me any comments or suggestions that you may have. Keep in mind that this is an on-going project and nothing is cast in stone yet.
As the process moves forward we are looking at strategies to achieve our mission. These are both internal and external strategies. They can be things that SPPD can do internally or in the community (externally), as well as things the community can help us accomplish that we could not do alone. This may include some things SPPD is already doing that you think we should continue to do, things SPPD is doing but needs to do a better job at, or things that SPPD is not doing but should be.
This is your chance to help SPPD determine strategies to provide quality service to the community.
Sir Robert Peel (1788-1850) is recognized as being "The Founder of Modern Policing." Peel said:
"Police, at all times, should maintain a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and the public are the police; the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence."

Thanks to those who have already given their input and I hope others will assist us in this important process. Dan
