Doing some research on the area located near the Schmidt Brewery, I was looking
for
some information about Adolph Bremer, the son-in-law of Jacob Schmidt and the
builder
of the mansion across from the brewery. Seems his son Adolph Jr. was Vulcanus
Rex VII
in the 1941 Winter Carnival (seven years after the notorious kidnaping of his
brother
Edward) â something I learned off of a website with Winter Carnival
history. Far more
fascinating, though, are the following entries about the Queen of the Snows
participants
over the course of the Carnivalâs history:

In 1917, there was No Queen of the Snows was chosen due to an almost fist fight
on
stage as to who, out of 3 ladies-in-waiting, would be crowned queen.

In 1957, Eva Wicker who worked for the St. Paul Pioneer Press was succeeded by
Lady-in-Waiting Barbara Geiger because Wicker âopted for marriage.â No
word on
whether the PiPress made her quit after the marriage option was chosen.

And most interestingly, in 1896, a gentleman by the name of Andrew Heckler was
chosen Queen of the Snows because âhe represented the new woman of 1896.â
He apparently used the alias, "Gloriana, the Daisy Queen"

By the way, if anyone has any information on the history of the Marie Schmidt
Bremer
House, please contact me off-list.
