I need to apologize for not being more specific in my post
responding to Dennis' original post. I tried to make it clear that
I was separating the Benanav issue from the political comment Dennis
made about democrats. Obviously I didn't do a good enough job.

To make better use of my second post, I want to follow with some
comments regarding Tim's questions about keeping the Mayor's race on
topic.

Politicians have learned that negative ads work. Failure to
respond to negative ads is disastrous. negative ads do not have to
have much basis in fact. Finally, outside money will dictate how
this campaign will be waged.

Another observation. No matter what we want the issues to be they
will be framed by the candidates and the outside special interests.
Regardless of the argued successes or failures of this
administration and the positions of the opponents, there will always
be someone who will characterize these issues to their benefit for
political gain.
