It's the Fox News model. Fox News grew as rapidly as it did, not because it's conservative, but because it's NOT LIBERAL.

FOX News grew as rapidly as it did because it decided to give up news and pander to conservative values by producing glossy opinion pieces in the guise of news. Their news shows became presentation formats for conservative mouthpieces who substituted conservative PR releases for investigative news. When Bush was running around touting tort reform as a solution for a major cause of the high cost of health care, FOX solemnly pointed out instances of high court awards instead of pointing out that--in the overall health care picture--malpractice costs amount to less than 1% of health care costs.

Later, when Georgie was constantly trumpeting about how he would leave medical choices up to us and our doctors and not involve some bureaucrat in Washington, FOX ate it up. Heaven forbid that FOX actually bother presenting any REAL news like the fact that there is already a bureaucrat in the room with you and your doctor. Only this bureaucrat works for insurance companies that operate with overheads of between 20% and 30% while that "government bureaucrat" handling the VA or Medicaid only eats up 4% to 5% of every health care dollar.

FOX news is all about propaganda not news and when that happens you can create some great entertainment because it is all about selling instead of informing. That is why FOX can win the popularity contest.

REAL News is not Liberal or Conservative but gives us information we need to make INFORMED decissions about our lives. But for conservatives, TRUTH is a liberal concept and that is why conservatives are constantly moaning that news is liberal. ANYTHING that doesn't fit their worldview or kowtow to their agenda has to be Liberal.

FOX News are the used car salesmen of journalism--wait, make that propaganda not journalism!
I wouldn't want to be accused of insulting journalism.

So a quick heads up to all members our e-democracy list serves, DON'T take all your news from one source. Gather it from many places, sift through it for the facts, mull them over in your own mind and then decide where the truth lies.

How's that for an oxymoron--"truth lies"?

For the most part, I think that here in the Twin Cities we are blessed with a plethora of media with voices from the far right, the far left and everything in between. As long as you keep an open mind a listen with critical ear the truth is out there and you can find it.

Good luck!
