As Mounds Park residents for 20 years, we've seen deer, raccoons,
woodchucks, rabbits and a red fox in our backyard. The deer fed on the
morning glories on our garden fence all summer long. A pileated
woodpecker, while magnificent, made some giant holes in our wood trim
last year as well.

We've seen pelicans on Pig's Eye Lake during the migration as well as
great blue heron. And just a couple of weeks ago, we saw a bald eagle
soaring along the river as we returned home from the MSP Airport on
Shepard Road; lots more fly over Highwood Hills east of Hwy. 61. Plenty
of Canada geese at the Suburban Ave. swamp at Burns and White Bear Ave.

And don't forget the bats! Let's make sure the city doesn't destroy
bat caves or any other important wildlife habitat in closing up the West
Side caves or building an airport floodwall.
