In my last post I had forgotten one encounter with wild life. Early
last summer on a sunny Sunday, morning our dog Oscar started
barking. What was strange was he was looking at the lower corner of
his kennel. I went out to find out what was interesting to him I
found a turtle. Frankly I can't tell you what kind, I don't remember
much about it. I do remember its shell was close to a foot across.
Not some small mud turtle you might see by the lake.

As I was off to church I moved it away from the kennel so I could
take it to the lake when I returned. When I did return, it was
gone. Nowhere to be seen.

There is another piece to this story. A few months earlier, around
10:00 PM, I saw a larger turtle on the side of the road on East
Shore Drive. I thought about stopping and helping it cross the road
but decided to get home. Unfortunately, the next morning, I saw the
carcass of this turtle in the middle of the road.

How I wish I had stopped.
