Got Voice? Got Power!, a collaborative initiative of community-based organizations in Ward One, is sponsoring a Community Forum this Thursday evening, February 3, 7-9 pm at the Hallie Q. Brown Community Center. All of the elected officals representing St. Paul's Ward One were invited to participate in this forum, to hear directly from constituents about their concerns and questions.
So far, we have commitments from:
- Elona Street-Stewart, Toni Carter, Kazoua Kong-Thao
and John Brodrick from the St. Paul Board of Education
- Debbie Montgomery from the St. Paul City Council
- Don Johnson representing St. Paul Mayor Randy Kelly's office
- Janice Rettman from the Ramsey County Board
- Rep. Cy Thao from the State House of Representatives
- Staff representing State Sen. Sandy Pappas
- Staff representing Congresswoman Betty McCollum
- Dan Williams representing Senator Norm Coleman...and we may have more.
We will ask these officials to explain to participants what kinds of issues their level of government deals with. Then we will have people meet in small groups with the officials they want to talk with or hear from, based on their own interests. At the end, we will have the officials report back to the large group about what they heard.
This is a great opportunity for St. Paul residents to speak directly with their elected representatives, in a small group setting, in the heart of the community. Please encourage others you know, especially
those whose voices are not often heard by elected officials, to join us!
