The Warner Road area is teeming with bald eagles lately. Well, I saw no
less than six at lunchtime yesterday (inc. two young ones) and have seen
more than one every day for several days running.

And finally, a coyote sighting. Four of us saw one running down the
railroad tracks toward downtown Friday night, right where that townhouse is
sinking into the ground near Bay & Stewart.

Cardinals have started making a lot of noise, although I was under the
impression they never went south (like the hummingbirds, e.g.)

We also have seen a fox run down a rabbit at warp speed, but that was in
Mpls so was probably rigged.

Subject: [StPaul] Wildlife in St. Paul

>Everyone cross your fingers. I believe a gigantic pileated
>woodpecker is setting up to lay eggs in a tree in my front yard.
>There are many bore holes and I know that this tree is hollow in
>many areas. They like escape routes!! Wow!!!! If they were just

Thanks to Michelle for sharing this. I am sometimes surprised at the
wildlife sightings that take place within our fair city. I know, that
from neighborhood to neighborhood, there are very different
opportunities for wild animals to survive in St. Paul.

I've lived in St. Paul all my life (most of it), but was very
surprised to see a family of raccoons near my current house about 10
years ago. Now, I've not seen them for a very long time. Of course,
there is the occasional deer siting. Wasn't it just a year or two
ago, that a deer ran through Rice Park.

For a change of pace, I'd love to hear a quick survey of the
different kinds of wildlife that some of us see from time to time in
our back yards.

Anyone care to begin?

What the most unusual wildlife sighting that you have had in the last
year, within the boundaries of St. Paul?

(Actually, Michelle already started us off with her Pileated Woodpecker
story).

Best wishes,
