My name is Brian Joyce and I will be at the rally. I have volunteered in St.Paul public schools and have seen first hand the damage to programs the poorly thought out state funding has caused in our schools. Schools have been scaling back staff and offerings for the past 4 years.
In the last 10 years real dollar increases to education K-12 have averaged 1% at the same time inflation has been at a 3% average. Do the math (old or new) and the schools come up short from one year to the next.
Our children are being cheated of the best education possible by a system that says they can only have what we are willing to say we can afford. This is a farce! The state constitution requires the funding of education and transportation nothing else.Yet these are the two largest underfunded areas in the state. It is time to put the money where it belongs! We do not have a spending problem we have a cash flow problem we must raise taxes or at least end the tax breaks recently enacted to ensure kids have a chance to succeed.

Is anyone else going to this Rally?
If so why?
I'm looking for some sense of what is happening on the ground in St. Paul, that has got people so interested in education finance!
