Michelle raises great points. However, as I remember from past
posts, the official flight paths for the downtown airport are not
over the homes of east side residents. I also remember that the
issue is, in many cases, flight instructors that allow students to
ignore the rules so to speak. So the issue may not be whose
interest is better served. The issue may be enforcing the flight
paths.

Thank you Elizabeth, for representing neighborhoods and the
environment
at the Mayor's streetbeat. And to everyone else as well!
With regard to the Mayor's response to the person who asked that
the
airport dike not be built because it is not a cost-benefit to the
city....:
"(The mayor disagreed, saying that Gander Mountain had moved here
because the CEO/President could fly his plane in; and that 3M,
Medtronics, etc. used the airport).
How do we weigh cost-benefit? Aren't all of the tax-payers that are
in
the flight path of these planes paying taxes and contributing to
their
communities? Flight paths for these planes are low because they
have a
quick drop off the bluff to land.
Does the ability of a CEO of a company in St. Paul to land his/her
plane within 10 driving minutes of the nearest board meeting
outweigh
the peaceful afternoons of thousands of tax paying citizens? We
need to
begin placing dollar values upon strong, urban communities and quit
salivating for the immediate fix.
