I have never bought into the notion that the Chamber is an evil entity. They have done an awful lot for minority business owners in the city of St. Paul (hopefully they will put women business owners higher on their list soon). Helping minority small business owners is definately a DFL thing to do.

Corporate subsidies is another matter and Dave and I are in sync on that. But St. Paul certainly is not the only city that overuses and abuses TIF. And yes, the big businesses will take the money if the state is willing to hand it out. And the City loves it. School districts and counties get shafted on it, of course, but that really isn't the City's concern. It should be the State's. Putting the responsibility for subsidies in the Mayor's lap or the Chamber's lap is really not fair. They are doing what is legal and trying to keep jobs in the city. The responsibility belongs in the Governor's and the legislator's lap.

So, I stand by my previous statement. Business is not bad. Development is not bad. Change is not bad. And making money is not bad. And I wish DFLers would stop badmouthing each other.
