Caty (and all):

I apologize if my intentions were not clear. Nothing in my post was intended to squash this discussion in any way. My goals were to simply to clarify what we were talking about.

In my opinion, there were two entirely different discussions going which was creating an appearance of disagreement, where I'm not sure it really exists. I simply asked people to be careful and clear about what they were talking about.

NOTE: I asked as a citizen, not as the moderator. I very intentionally post as "Forum Manger" or "List Manager" when I'm acting in an official capacity. When I speak as a citizen, my posts are signed "Tim Erickson, Hamline Midway."

To be clear:

"white privilege and imbalanced (racially and class)
     civic participation are inextricably entwined."

I AGREE

"discussing either or the combination of the both
violates none of the forum's rules"

I AGREE. I never meant to suggest otherwise. In fact, I would encourage this discussion. I'd just like to make sure that everyone involved is clear about what they are talking.

In my opinion, we have several individuals in the forum arguing that the CIB process is not controlled by the Mayor (in practice).

Then we had another discussion about the "unfairness" of the CIB process in general.

Its entirely possible that both of these positions are true and compatible. It might be the case, that the Mayor exercises very little influence over who is on the committee, but that the CIB process is unfair.

Thanks to everyone, I look forward to the discussion,

Posting as a citizen,

Tim Erickson
Hamline Midway
