My birthday is in December, and I'm pretty sure I didn't do my intro then. So here goes.

Many of you know me, as I've been around a long time. My name is Erik Hare, and I live in a house that I restored myself in Irvine Park. My wife left me 2 years ago, and I lost my job as a research engineer at 3M shortly after, so I've spent most of my time trying to stay above water since then. Rather than just job-search, I also worked with some friends on an internet company that sells furniture made by Amish, and it's been successful enough that I'm doing that full-time from home now (Harmony Cedar, URL below!).

I used to be very active in things, and so I know a lot of what's going on in general terms (or at least I think I do). I'm probably more of a typical Saint Paul voter now than I used to be in that sense. I find this forum infinately useful for staying up on things, and currently I lurk much more than I used to.

I've lived here for 18 years now. I have two kids in Expo Elementary, a cute older dog, and a once feral cat from Wisconsin that apparently might have become a target even though he's the sweetest li'l thang. I consider myself a DFLer, even if I am rather pissy about the party and generally more centrist than the rest of caucus night. Still, some sense of justice in the world and a real community are both worth fighting for to me.

I am currently calling myself uncommitted for Mayor, but I have a lot of confidence in Ortega that's just not shared in anyone else. I think Rafael is smart, and even when I've disagreed with him he's taken the time to show up at community events and explain his reasoning, which I think is pretty cool.
