I would without hesitation support legislation
outlawing smoking in any home where children are
present. Children are far more susceptible to second
hand smoke than adults. Children raised in homes where
smoking occurs are three times as likely to develop
cancer as those who don't. Exposing children to
cigarette smoke ought to be considered child abuse.

Now, I'm sure I'll hear the objection that I'm
infringing on someone's right to be left alone in
their own home. However, no-one would object to the
government intervening to stop other types of child
abuse or endangerment even if it takes place in the
confines of a private home. Why shouldn't society
intervene to protect a child from the abuse of being
subjected to toxic smoke?
