I know that we stray from the City focus on this but again you are absolutely
correct on the conservative philosophy. If I run a bar and water down the
drinks, to bad let the buyer beware. If I serve spoiled meat, let the buyer
beware. If I want to smoke and it makes you ill, to bad I can do what I damn
well please. All of these things are regulated because we live in a
civilization. The purpose of law is to protect those who need protection from
those who
would exploit or hurt them. The purpose of democracy is to ensure at least
some liberties for the powerless, and I am afraid those who fear taxation,
regulation and litigation probably can do a pretty good job of protecting
themselves.
The smoking ban that is happening throughout the country one city and one
state at a time is a movement of people who are tired of bullies deciding there
right to smoke is higher than someone else's right to breath.
