Should Minnesota taxpayers and Saint Paul parents really consider Teacher Union endorsement of a school board candidate to be a good thing?

The School Board represents the city as a whole. Do we want school board
members to feel obligated to the teachers unions?

Unions represent the financial interests of their own members, in this case,
employees of the school district. They naturally want more money, more time off,
better benefits and earlier retirement. The costs of these benefits come from the
taxpayers, or from reductions in other areas that may better benefit students.

Jeanne, could you explain in what ways the interests of the union coincide with the
interests of citizens, parents and students?
