As someone who has previously received the backing of the teachers union I
found it important and valuable because teachers are taxpayers, parents and
community members. They are also on the front line carrying out the work the
board has directed. The best managers work with not against there employees.

It is still up to each individual voter to take each endorsement and piece
of literature and make a decision and then vote. As a former school board
candidate I want input from every group but at the end of day the board must
make the best choice for the children of the district. This means that at
some point you will piss off every group there is.

School Board

Should Minnesota taxpayers and Saint Paul parents really consider
Teacher Union endorsement of a school board candidate to be a good thing?

The School Board represents the city as a whole. Do we want school board
members to feel obligated to the teachers unions?

Unions represent the financial interests of their own members, in this case,
employees of the school district. They naturally want more money, more
time off,
better benefits and earlier retirement. The costs of these benefits come
from the
taxpayers, or from reductions in other areas that may better benefit
students.

Jeanne, could you explain in what ways the interests of the union coincide
with the
interests of citizens, parents and students?
