I've got to go with Juan Williams on this one -- it was an excellent
debate.

I don't know who "won" the debate, but George Bush sure didn't.

The moderator was much better than he was 4 years ago. I was very
pleased with my preferred candidate's performance and very impressed
by the performance of his opponent.

Some are criticizing McCain for not attacking Obama on the financial
crisis. (See video clip in my "Who did this to us?" post.) He can
make those points later. I think staying in "bipartisan mode" on that
issue was the right thing to do.

Some niggling comments. McCain needs a good teeth whitening. He also
needs to get rid of that smirk when Obama is talking. And that
striped tie looked horrible on TV. He needs some newer jokes, too.

Obama needs to stop with the "as I've always said" pre-spin to his
answers. Some of his answers drone on too long. Staying in partisan
mode on the bailout issue was a bit lame in my view. And he must stop
talking over his opponent. It's rude and not very presidential.
Better for him to be seen as polite while taking a punch and biding
his time to deliver a counter punch.

Looking forward to the Palin-Biden (ladies first) debate. Hopefully,
they won't over-coach Sarah. Just let her be the one people like.
