I'm not as touchy-feely about the subject of animals, though. He deserves to be punished in a meaningful way (being deprived of the privilege of a multi-million dollar NFL career permanently sounds like a good first step) but killing a dog just isn't the same as depriving a parent of their child or a family of a parent. I would kill a dog to eat if I had no other choice, just as I might kill a pig or a chicken. I accept that that blood is on my hands by proxy every time I enjoy a big juicy steak. I wouldn't kill a human for the same reasons, though. There's clearly a distinct ethical line there. I think you need mental attention if you kill anything for fun: whether it's a dog or a deer, I think there's something wrong upstairs.
