nope ... nor do many others

this is Gina Rinehart Net Worth: Stats $28 Billion (AU$29b) [ worlds
richest woman she inherited her father Lang Hancock's iron ore mining
company ... recently she has bought stakes in newspaper and television
companies ... seeking to influence social - political spheres ...
apparently her wealth grows at 1 million dollars every 30 mins [ can't
verify that and the math boogles me ] ...

here is the whole video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3CcxRbFiLg

recently she has been involved in huge court battle to deny her children
access to the trust funds their Grandfather set up for them ... it doesn't
bother me to much that she can't read it is the sense of absolute
entitlement that bugs me ... any how I digress

a bigger problem for me [ or my ego ] is being replaced by twitter .. some
of the live shows I work /worked on now have a rolling feed of twitter
comments at the bottom of the screen or have segments
where the hosts will read the feedback out .. possibly would work better
on radio ... that in itself isn't so much of an issue but the fact that
the twitter tweets are anonymous and generally of a ridiculously
banal uninformative nature really does

that certainly explains the fondness for celebrity downfall stories

I think it should be possible for countries to protect their national
interests while accommodating and learning from global concerns that others
may or may not have solved .. it strikes me as absurd that the country that
considers itself the Best and the most Wonderful has no universal health
care and is the only first world nation not to ...

http://truecostblog.com/2009/08/09/countries-with-universal-healthcare-by-date/

you have to ask why ... would it bankrupt the insurance companies doubt it
.. is it about "communism" Japan is hardly communist nor are Britain,
Canada Australia certainly isn't
would it bankrupt the "state" nope but it would mean perhaps the wealthy
might have to pay a few dollars more a week maybe the cost of a skinny
decafe latte

the idea that there is no need to consider the opinions and experiences of
others just speaks to the concept of superiority and specialness of Empire
and that
those who feel better in the safety of isolationism feel that as Gods own
People the rest who are as insignificant as ants are in no way fearsome
...the ants are not just foreigners but the poor and ill and those
otherwise down on their "luck"

it is a bit different here as during the Vietnam war there was conscription
and now all the Defence forces are professionals ... there are not the
great number of ordinary boys as you have in the States
our force is relatively small compared to population ... so it is easy to
turn any incident into appalling moments of sentiment and nationalism
with politicians front and center emoting on the wounds to the nation ... I
am sure though if you went to a mall or football game and asked people if
they knew a] where afghanistan was b] if the country was at war c] if it
was what was the war all about ... you might get some very
interesting responses
