i thought maybe if i:
Set up IPv6
IPv6 is an extension of the Internet Protocol (IP) designed to support
better IP addressing and security, and provide other improvements to the
global architecture of the Internet.

By default, IPv6 in AirPort Utility is configured for local communication
only. To use IPv6 for global communication, choose either native IPv6 or an
IPv6-in-IPv4 tunnel configuration in AirPort Utility. Both Native and
Tunnel can be set to obtain an IPv6 configuration automatically from the
network, or manually by entering parameters in AirPort Utility.

   - Open AirPort Utility, located in the Utilities folder in the
Applications folder. Select the device you’re setting up, and click Edit.
   Enter the password if necessary.
   - Click Internet, and then click Internet Options.
   - Choose Automatically or Manually from the Configure IPv6 pop-up menu.
   - Choose Native or Tunnel from the IPv6 Mode pop-up menu.
   - If you chose Manually from the Configure IPv6 pop-up menu, enter the
IPv6 WAN address, default route, and other information you received from
   your service provider.

If you chose Native from the IPv6 Mode pop-up menu, you can deselect
“Enable IPv6 connection sharing” to not share the IPv6 Internet connection
with devices on your network.

i only used the default settings, hoping to improve some lagging on my home
network. is there anything else i can do?

seems a recent update to airport might be the root of this...couldn't we
roll back to earlier version of airport util. now we can't(?)

i finally sucuumbed to economic cuts and had them turn off cable
entertainment. so everything was recently hard reset. the green light for
internet in airport utility goes amber.
