I remember all the Apple dealers howling with rage when Apple opened the Apple 
Stores and started selling Macs hand over fist by not charging a frikkin 200% 
markup, and having dingy stores with a non-working LC up front. 

I try to patronize local stores, I do, but I went into the local non-Apple 
store place looking for a mildly esoteric bit (I needed an AAUI-10baseT 
tranciever cable) and they treated me like I was some weirdo-leper who might 
rub off on them, finally dug the part out and offered to sell me a $25 item for 
$175. 

Found it for $18.95 online with shipping.

Another time I was in there, I witnessed a salesperson who was unable to 
explain 'What is the difference between a 15" and a 17" monitor?'

Like the local (highly rated, for some unknown reason) bike shop that acts like 
if you don't come into the store with a $5k carbon-fiber road bike, dressed in 
race spandex, you're not worth their time or effort.

So I go to the Performance chain store instead, get what I need at a decent 
price from friendly people, and the profits leave town.
