Thanks!  For the record,
mv $CATALINA_HOME/jasper/crimson.jar $CATALINA_HOME/lib/crimson.jar
mv $CATALINA_HOME/jasper/jaxp.jar $CATALINA_HOME/lib/jaxp.jar
seems to have fixed it!
