I know exactly what you are saying! However, since I started using vi about 6 months ago, my knowledge of the Java J2SE and J2EE API has increased 10-fold because I cannot use the tool-tip (dot-completion) crutch. Instead, I have to actually READ the damn thing and make my own assessment of what is appropriate. Then compile and run...oops! That wasn't the right method ...must...try...something...else...read...the...documentation.
