In fact Albrecht Durer has a wonderful woodcut which is an instruction on
the technical detail for making of all kinds of sundials, vertical,
horizontal, etc. He shows then all on one piece of stone, and how they
relate to each other and to the sun. I have this in a book of his woodcuts
I bought some years ago. If anybody is interested to know more, I'll be
happy to share what I can about the book, which I do not have to hand right
now.

One of the fascinating things I find about dials is, not only the
technical and scientific but also the artistic aspects of their
construction. The artistry and craftsmanship in some is quite exquisite.
Many mottos also show a philosophical and contemplative vein which is found
in few other practical things.
